"Avengers: Endgame" is a satisfying conclusion to over a decade of the Marvel Universe. Moreso, it's a giant love alphabetic character to the fans. If y'all put in the time and watched all 21 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies leading up to "Endgame," you're rewarded with nods, direct callbacks, and subtle references to the comics and movies alike.

After multiple viewings, Insider rounded upward some of the all-time references you lot may merely catch if you lot've recently re-watched some of the MCU movies. For instance, did y'all notice the group'due south hand shot from the trailers is a nod to Tony'south first arc reactor in 2008'southward "Iron Homo"? There's as well a glimmer-and-you'll-miss-it A-113 Easter egg.

I don't think we could possibly round up every single piddling reference and nod to the 21 films before it. But hither are some of the all-time. We've added a few new tidbits subsequently directors Anthony and Joe Russo and screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus joined Comicbook.com'southward quarantine watch party to commemorate the picture show's 1-year anniversary.

Buckle upwards. You lot may get a bit emotional past the terminate.

The film opens on a shot of Hawkeye wearing an ankle monitor.

The photographic camera focused on Clint Barton'south ankle monitor briefly, and then you probable saw it on screen. He was put on house abort because of his actions in "Civil War," seen higher up.
Marvel Studios

If you're wondering why Clint Barton has an ankle monitor at the start of the picture show, y'all shouldn't exist. We learned in "Avengers: Infinity War," both he and Scott Lang accepted plea deals for helping Captain Ameria in "Ceremonious War."

He was placed under firm and had all of his activity monitored. It's unclear if he's pardoned from wearing that at the end of "Endgame." He did save the world afterward all. You would think that would earn him some sort of laissez passer.

Clint refers to his daughter as Hawkeye.

Clint gives his girl advice on how to properly stand up while holding a bow and pointer.
Marvel

That'south non a coincidence. Barton does mentor a hereafter Eagle in the comics, named Kate Bishop. The biggest difference is that she isn't his daughter.  The most interesting bit here is that Bishop was a fellow member of a group called the Young Avengers. Is that a hint at something to come down the line? Maybe.

In the pic, Hawkeye's girl is named Lila, not Kate. It seems like the MCU may be planning to make Lila a version of Bishop. She's played by manager Joe Russo's girl, Ava.

You can read more on Kate Bishop here.

At the start of the picture show, Nebula and Tony are playing a game. When she wins, he asks if she had fun. For a moment, she doesn't seem to understand.

Tony probably doesn't realize how much that simple action means to her.
Marvel

While stranded in space, Nebula and Tony pass the time by playing paper football game. Nebula winds upwardly winning the game and Tony asks her a elementary question: "Yous accept fun?"

The weight of that moment may not have meant too much in passing to some, but, if you've watched the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise, it's ane that may accept made you tear upward. Nebula spent so much of her life trying to please her step-father, Thanos, and in competition with her sister, Gamora. The two never had any "traditional" fun growing up.

Instead, Thanos forced Gamora and Nebula to boxing each other while training them equally assassins. Whenever Nebula lost (every time), Thanos replaced a office of her with a machine to attempt and brand her Gamora'due south equal.

When Nebula tells Tony she had fun, information technology's probably i of the few instances she'southward always been able to say that in her life.

Tony says they've been in space for 21 days before correcting himself and saying 22.

Tony Stark direct addresses that "Avengers: Endgame" is the 22nd movie in the franchise.
Marvel Studios

"Avengers: Endgame" is the 22nd movie in the Curiosity Cinematic Universe.

There's a reason Helm Marvel is able to detect Tony Stark so easily in space. Information technology'due south all done off screen.

If yous didn't run across "Helm Marvel," this may have seemed similar a convenient plot device.
Marvel

There's amail service-credits scene in "Captain Marvel"that looks as if it's a scene from "Avengers: Endgame." Marvelreleased it online for you to sentry hither. That scene never appears in "Endgame," just is extremely important for agreement how Tony gets back home.

The clip shows Captain Marvel arrive at the Avengers HQ, where she meets Helm America, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, and more. She finds out Nick Fury is missing, and the scene ends.

On the "Avengers: Endgame" commentary, codirector Joe Russo said Captain Marvel tracks the homing beacon on Rocket's ship to find Stark and Nebula.

When Tony returns to Earth, he references a bit of dialogue direct from "Avengers: Age of Ultron" while putting Cap on blast.

Did you lot grab this quick dialogue reference?
Marvel Studios

During Tony'due south start conversation with Captain America since 2015'southward "Civil War," Tony gets very emotional and gets mad at Steve Rogers. He puts some blame on him for running away and non wanting to register every bit a superhero with the government to possibly prevent the Thanos snap in "Infinity War" from happening.

Ultimately, Stark tells Cap he told him that they'd win together and lose together, too. That'south a direct echo of a conversation in "Age of Ultron."

Tony:Nosotros're standing 300 ft below it. We're the Avengers. We can bust artillery dealer all the alive long day.But that up there, THAT'S the Endgame. How were yous guys planning on beating that?

Cap: Together.

Tony: We'll lose.

Cap: And then we'll do that together, as well.

You tin watch the scene hither.

Tony refers to Medico Strange as the "Bleecker Street Magician."

That'south a nickname Doctor Strange probably would have preferred over "the sorcerer."
Marvel Studios

In "Infinity State of war," Tony kept referring to Physician Strange as "the magician." Foreign works out of the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is located at 177a Bleecker Street in New York City.

The planet where Thanos retires is labeled 0259-Due south.

Natasha notices the planet is where Thanos recently used the Infinity Stones once again. Thanos is seen on "The Garden," above, at the end of "Infinity War."
Marvel

It'south briefly seen on screen as Black Widow references that Thanos has used the stones again.

Thanos refers to this planet as "The Garden." Peradventure he considers this Titan Two. It may be worth mentioning that "The Avengers" No. 259 from 1963 features Nebula, a version of Helm Marvel, and the Skrulls. After watching "Captain Marvel," I think we'll exist seeing more of the Skrulls in the future.

There was a hint at Thor's oncoming depression early in the picture that y'all may have missed.

Did you lot spot the bread in this scene early.
Marvel Studios

While Tony and Steve Rogers are bickering, Thor can be seen in the background eating from a bowl of breadstuff. That was a hint at his weight proceeds to come up in the flash-forrad.

Tony gives Carol Danvers his stamp of approval early on in the movie.

Tony Stark says Captain Marvel is the future of the group.
Marvel Studios

Very chop-chop at the film'south start, Tony says that Captain Curiosity is swell afterward she saved his life.

"We demand you," said Tony. "You're new claret."

It'south a small-scale hint of the passing of the torch to come up. You may have missed the line while laughing as Tony rambled on almost a lot of things.

When Rocket Raccoon asks the Avengers who hasn't been in space nonetheless, you tin very briefly hear Helm Marvel chuckle.

Continue an middle on Helm Marvel during this scene.
Marvel Studios

This is a detail we missed while watching the pic in theaters several times. Every bit the group heads into space to hunt down Thanos, Rocket turns and asks who hasn't been in space.

Instead of focusing on Steve Rogers, Rhodey, and Blackness Widow who pop their hands up, keep an eye on Captain Curiosity.

Correct earlier Rocket tells them they meliorate not get sick on his ship, Helm Curiosity turns her head and chuckles.

Here's an easy one. Afterwards Thor kills Thanos, Rocket Raccoon asks him what he just did. Thor simply says he went for the head before peacing out.

Thanos mocks Thor and information technology haunts him.
Marvel

"Endgame" has no problems leaning into memes. After "Infinity State of war," fans blamed Thor when he drove Stormbreaker into Thanos' chest instead of his caput. Even Thanos told him he should have went for the head.

That's clearly been bugging Thor, too. The side by side time he sees Thanos and doesn't get the answer he wants, it'southward off with his head!

Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos, also has an "Endgame" cameo.

Did you find Starlin's speaking role in "Endgame"? Here he is at the "Endgame" premiere.
Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images

He can also be seen in the grouping therapy scene and has a speaking part.

"My motion-picture show debut. Had a great fourth dimension with some terrific folks, similar Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the script writers," Starlin said of the moment on Facebook. "When I wasn't busy learning my one line or getting made upwardly I had fun chatting with them. They and director Joe Russo were exceptionally open up with me and for that I sincerely give thanks them, even though I had to keep my rima oris close for a year and a one-half afterwards."

Y'all tin can see photos of him filming the scene here.

All of the Avengers appear to exhibit some signs of stages of grief.

Anybody has handled the events of "Infinity War" in a dissimilar way.
Marvel/Disney

Not everyone agrees with the 5 stages of grief, just people often cite them as denial, acrimony, bargaining, low, and acceptance. Some of the remaining Avengers exhibit varying degrees of these five stages in the five years that pass after killing Thanos.

A few examples:

Clint Barton/Hawkeye takes the loss of his family unit difficult and turns to anger, murdering a countless number of people under the guise of Ronin.

The time jump was a good matter for Bruce Banner. He was able to movement forward and discover peace with the Hulk to merge into a version of himself that he considers the best of both worlds.

Tony has mostly accepted what has happened. He has moved on with Pepper and the two have a daughter. He initially is wary of helping the Avengers because he doesn't want to lose what he has gained. However, it's articulate he's still a scrap haunted by the loss of Peter Parker. He keeps a photo of the 2 of them in his kitchen near another of his father, Howard.

Thor exhibits signs of depression and denial. He'south gained a lot of weight and Valkyrie says he usually comes out in one case a month to get more booze. When Rocket and the Blob detect him, he's drunk and looks like he hasn't showered in a while. His hair is unkempt and he has crumbs in his beard. He doesn't even want to hear the name Thanos. Korg and Miek say they don't use that name around him.

Natasha/Black Widow and Steve seem to be somewhere in between bargaining and denial. When Nat learns in that location'southward the slightest risk they tin bring everyone back, she'south all over it because she doesn't want to believe their fate is ready. Steve tells Natasha he goes to group meetings to tell others to move on, just they don't. Unlike Tony and Bruce, both of them are having a hard time finding ways to have meaning in their lives when so many people close to them were taken away.

Tony and Pepper Potts' daughter's proper noun, Morgan, is a subtle comic nod.

Morgan is named afterwards a comic graphic symbol, seen above.
Marvel Studios, Marvel

Tony told Pepper Potts at the first of "Avengers: Infinity War" that he dreamed they had a kid named Morgan. That eventually came to pass.

In "Infinity War," Tony say Morgan is Pepper Pott's eccentric uncle, but in the comics Morgan Stark is Tony's cousin. He notoriously tried to take over Stark Industries several times over from Tony.

The storage unit of measurement Scott Lang was holed up in for five years was labeled 616.

The book is a collection of short stories by J.G. Ballard. The US edition contains ix curt stories, the offset of which is titled, "End-Game."

For what it's worth, another book with the same proper name by Steve Bradshaw follows a president who is faced with the decision to rid of millions of lives in the Midwest when an invader threatens the country.
